A Massive Harpy Eagle That Leaves Everyone in Awe.

Whether seen in person or captured in a photograph, this enormous eagle never fails to leave people speechless. It is a true embodiment of strength, pride, and majesty. Known as the harpy eagle—or the American harpy eagle to differentiate it from the Papuan eagle—this magnificent bird commands attention with its piercing gaze, almost as if issuing a silent warning not to challenge it.

As the largest and most powerful raptor in the rainforest, the harpy eagle stands among the world's most formidable eagle species. It primarily resides in the upper canopy of tropical lowland rainforests. Unfortunately, due to habitat destruction, its population has significantly declined, and it has nearly disappeared from many parts of its former range, particularly in Central America. In Brazil, it is also called the "royal hawk" (Portuguese: gavião-real).

Harpy eagles are unrivaled in size and power among rainforest raptors worldwide. They rank among the largest eagles on Earth, boasting an impressive wingspan of up to 7 feet 4 inches (224 centimeters) while maintaining a weight between 8.5 and 20 pounds (3.8 to 9 kilograms).

Brazil remains the stronghold of the harpy eagle, where it is widespread across the country. However, beyond some areas of Panama, the species is on the brink of extinction in Central America, primarily due to extensive deforestation.
