Olivia Munn made an unexpected appearance on The Daily Show Wednesday night, offering a sharp and humorous take on former President Donald Trump’s tariff strategy — and revealing that it may have been driven by something much more personal than economic concerns.
“This has nothing to do with fixing trade imbalances,” Munn said. “It’s all about trying to fill Donald Trump’s massive deficit… of attention and love.”
Munn, who was a correspondent on the show from 2010 to 2011, took aim at Trump’s comments during a National Republican Congressional Committee dinner held the previous evening. In his speech, Trump bragged that foreign leaders were reaching out, desperate to make trade deals, even saying they were “kissing my ass” in response to his aggressive tariff policies.
“They’re begging,” Trump claimed. “‘Please, please, sir, make a deal.’”
But within 24 hours, Trump walked back the tough stance, announcing a 90-day delay on most tariffs — except those targeting China.
Munn used the moment to deliver a biting punchline.
“See?” she said. “He’s just a boy, standing in front of the world, asking to have his ass kissed.”
“And once that gaping hole in his heart is filled, the tariffs will magically disappear.”
Daily Show correspondent Desi Lydic, sharing the screen with Munn, wasn’t so convinced.
“That’s never going to happen,” Lydic said. “There isn’t enough attention in the world to make him feel like a human again.”
“Exactly, bitch,” Munn replied with a smirk.
